Why George Tavares?
Mississauga manages billions of dollars in public assets and major projects involving roads, transit, housing, policing, infrastructure, technology and public services. Ward 7 residents live with those decisions every day.
I am not asking you to judge me only by what I promise to do. Judge me by what I prepared for, what I have already done, and whether that experience will be useful to Ward 7. Residents deserve proof before promises.
Prepared
My education includes business, political science, engineering, project management, and smart city design.
My professional background includes engineering, technology, project management, infrastructure, and business.
That matters at City Hall. Council makes decisions about budgets, roads, transit, construction, technology, public safety, procurement, and billions of dollars in public assets.
The basic questions should always be clear:
What does it cost?
What problem are we solving?
Who is accountable?
How will we know whether it worked?
Local
I live in Ward 7.
The LRT construction, hospital construction, traffic, noise, housing pressures, safety concerns, and impact on local businesses are not issues I discovered during an election. They are part of daily life here.
A Councillor should understand Ward 7 from both sides of the council chamber — from the Council table, and from the street.
Proven
I did not wait for an election to start paying attention.
For years, I have attended Council and Regional Council meetings, reviewed budgets and public reports, made deputations, questioned major spending decisions, raised infrastructure and neighbourhood concerns, and worked with residents and public officials.
That work came before asking for this job.
A record of responsibility
Trust Earned
I ran for Mayor of Mississauga in 2022 and again in 2024.
More than 6,000 residents trusted me with their vote and asked me, through that vote, to speak for them.
I took that responsibility seriously.
When those elections ended, I did not disappear.
Kept going to Council and Regional Council.
Kept reading budgets and staff reports.
Kept making deputations.
Kept questioning spending and major projects when the numbers did not make sense.
Kept meeting with residents, business owners, MPs, MPPs, councillors, City staff and Regional staff.
Kept speaking up on taxes, infrastructure, transit, public safety, major projects and the everyday issues affecting Mississauga residents.
For me, receiving someone's vote creates a responsibility.
That responsibility does not disappear when the election ends.
Your vote should matter for all four years, not just on election day.

Why Ward 7?
After years of municipal advocacy, residents began asking me to run for Ward 7 Councillor.
Ward 7 is where I live. It is where the LRT construction, hospital construction, traffic, housing pressures, public safety concerns, infrastructure problems and effects on local businesses are part of everyday life.
Running for Ward 7 is not a change of direction. It is the next practical step.
I have spent years standing on one side of the Council chamber asking questions. I am now asking Ward 7 residents for the opportunity to take that work to the Council table.
